Why we don't use Honey in our body butter

If you love the idea of honey and whipped tallow together, you’re not alone. Both are skincare favorites and let's be honest - honey has great label appeal.  But here’s the truth: raw honey and anhydrous (oil-only) body butter simply don’t mix.

Why Honey Doesn’t Belong in Oil-Based Body Butter

Honey is water-based. Tallow and oils are fat-based. And as we all learned in science class… oil and water don’t blend.

Adding raw honey to a homemade body butter can lead to:

Separation – Honey will eventually seep out of the butter, creating an uneven, messy product.
Sticky texture – Instead of silky and whipped, you’ll get tacky, draggy, uncomfortable skin feel.
Rapid spoilage – Honey contains water. Once introduced into an oil formula, it can encourage mold, yeast, and bacteria growth within 24–48 hours.  Just because you may not see it doesn't mean it isn't there.
Preservative requirements – To safely combine honey and fats, you must use a proper emulsifier and a strong preservative system. Without them, the product isn’t stable or safe.
Allergy concerns – Those sensitive to pollen or bee products may experience irritation.

While raw honey has natural antimicrobial qualities, once it’s mixed into other ingredients and diluted, those protective properties are reduced. Moisture + room temperature storage + finger dipping into jars = a perfect environment for contamination.

Why We Keep Our Whipped Tallow Water-Free

Whipped tallow is beautifully simple. It’s rich in skin-loving fatty acids and vitamins, deeply moisturizing, and naturally stable when kept anhydrous (water-free).

The moment water enters the formula — whether from honey or another liquid — you move from a pure butter to a product that requires cosmetic-grade emulsifiers and preservatives for safety and shelf stability.

That’s not the clean, simple formula most people are looking for.

The Better Way: Honey-Inspired Botanicals

Instead of raw honey, we use herbs and essential oils that deliver similar skin-loving benefits — without adding water, without requiring preservatives, and without compromising texture.

Pure. Stable. Intentional.

Honey and tallow may sound like a dream team, but without proper emulsifiers like Glyceryl Stearate or emulsifying wax — and a strong preservative system — they simply aren’t safe or stable together.

We believe skincare should be:
- Simple
- Stable
- Safe
- Luxuriously smooth

By keeping our whipped tallow anhydrous and thoughtfully infused with powerful botanicals, you get all the nourishment — without the stickiness, separation, or spoilage.

Pure skincare. Done right.
